The Ekovore 500L-155 individual composter is a 500-litre freestanding composter, designed for private gardens, vegetable patches, green spaces and communal gardens. Its height of 155 cm allows for easy access whilst standing and enables direct emptying into a standard wheelbarrow by gravity, without the need to lift. Protected on all six sides against rodents, it works on any type of soil thanks to its integrated starter tray, which activates the composting process as soon as it is installed. Made in France and supplied as a kit, it is assembled using a screwdriver fitted with a Phillips bit and can be combined with other sizes in the range.
How it works: the compost started bed
compost started bedThe seed bed is the biological heart of the composter. When setting it up, fill it with living soil — a shovelful of garden soil or mature compost will suffice. This introduces the microorganisms, worms and other small creatures that break down organic waste. This method ensures quick and effective composting right from the start.
Ergonomics and mouse protection
The sloping base and raised design allow contents to be emptied by gravity directly into a standard wheelbarrow, without the need to lift anything. The structure completely encloses all six sides of the composter, preventing rodents from gaining access. This design sets it apart from open or wooden composters, which are ill-suited to urban and suburban environments.

Technical characteristics
To ensure a long service life, the wooden panels are made of 21mm-thick Douglas fir, which is untreated and naturally rot-resistant.
A gap is left between each board to allow for full peripheral ventilation and to promote aerobic fermentation. The frame is made of pre-galvanised steel sheet, cut using a laser. The composter is supplied as a flat-pack kit to assemble yourself, complete with assembly instructions.
The tools required (not supplied) are a cordless screwdriver or a Phillips screwdriver.

Will the composter work on concrete or impermeable ground?
Yes. Its freestanding design, complete with a seeding tray, means it can be used on any type of surface, including concrete or paving. It therefore requires no direct contact with the ground.
What is the difference between the 500L-155 and the 500L-110?
The difference lies in the height: 155 cm for this model, 110 cm for the 500L-110 model. The 155 cm height makes it easier to access whilst standing and to empty into a wheelbarrow, particularly for intensive or communal use. The 110 cm model is better suited to spaces where headroom is limited.
Is the compost bin really protected from rodents?
Yes. The structure completely encloses all six visible sides, with no openings accessible to rodents. It is therefore particularly suitable for urban and suburban areas where there is a high rodent population.
Do you need any tools for assembly?
Yes. The composter is supplied as a flat-pack kit and can be assembled using a screwdriver with a Phillips head bit. The wheelbarrow and the seedbed are not included.
Can the system be expanded if demand increases?
Yes. The 500L-155 model can be combined with other sizes in the Ekovore range — 275L, 300L or 800L — to increase the total capacity without having to start from scratch.
